Through breeders suggestions many years ago, I quit using clay litter.
Many experiments with what worked best took a few turns over the years. I have used newspaper on the bottom of the box. Which now a days that might be a little difficult to even find newspapers with everything going digital. I put rabbit pellets on the newspaper. It was good for the fact all pee soaked into the bottom. But around my litter boxes had a slight smell of alfalfa. Which of course was much better than the clay litter box odor. Then I found out about bed of cobs. Putting that on top of the newspaper and rabbit pellets improved the situation. All pee soaked through the cobs.
Great as long as they didn’t dig like crazy in the box. There were times that digging was a disaster to the box. Newspaper ended up poking above the litter combo. Eventually I quit using paper and rabbit pellets. Cob litter became the only kind I used. Gave up clay due to the smell, weight (garbage guy was complaining), dust (couple of cats with allergies to the dust), and it was hard to walk on in the middle of the night. And it really did make the house dusty.
Transitioning to cob litter impressed my brother. I had a number of cats and his daughter had one. Her house smelled like a cat litter box with the clay. He got her hooked on the cob litter.
I haven’t tried this litter but I’m thinking it might be worth a try. It uses the whole corn and not just the cob part. And it clumps. Was never really fond of the clumping litter idea. I was always concerned that if clumped in the box, what if they got it on their feet and licked their feet… does it clump in the gut. Being the fact this product is all natural with no chemicals added, I would think if any is ingested there would be no danger. Besides it is flushable, so it has got to be able to break down.
